Overview
The IT Support Intern plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the organization’s technology systems. The position provides hands‑on experience across various IT functions while supporting staff with day‑to‑day technical needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to user (staff) requests and troubleshoot hardware/software issues.
- Install, configure, and repair desktops, laptops, printers, and medical devices/networks.
- Assist with network infrastructure: switches, routers, cabling, and basic LAN maintenance.
- Support server infrastructure, virtual machines, backup systems, and monitoring performance.
- Prepare user training materials and conduct training sessions for hospital staff on IT systems; document procedures.
- Support hospital‑specific applications (e.g., patient management, electronic health records) and general productivity tools.
- Maintain IT asset inventory and track hardware and software licenses.
- Assist with cybersecurity: update antivirus, perform backups, and enforce security policies.
- Assist with special IT projects, e.g., new system deployments, infrastructure upgrades, digital transformation projects.
- Generate reports on system performance, incidents, resource usage, and support audits.
Minimum Requirements
- South African unemployed youth aged 18‑34.
- Must not have participated in the YES programme before.
- Matric or completed a qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Networking/Systems Support, or a related IT field.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware and software.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting applications.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (LAN, Wi‑Fi, routers, switches).
Personal Attributes
- Willingness to learn and follow technical instructions.
- Ability to work on-site and assist with physical IT tasks such as setup, cabling, and moving equipment.
