Job description

Head : Information Technology Infrastructure | Centurion, Gauteng | Permanent

This role sits at the centre of a complex, high-availability environment where stability, security, and future-proofing are non-negotiable. If you thrive in an environment where infrastructure strategy meets hands‑on operational leadership, this is a mission worth stepping into.

You will lead the full IT infrastructure and service delivery portfolio, ensuring that systems, networks, cloud environments, and support functions operate seamlessly and evolve in line with enterprise needs. The role oversees first- and second-line support, data centre operations, network uptime, DR readiness, cybersecurity alignment, asset management, vendor performance, and overall service excellence. It calls for someone who can balance strategic vision with operational precision, while architecting an infrastructure landscape that supports scale, resilience, and innovation.

The position reports into a highly regulated financial environment with enterprise-grade technology requirements, complex dependencies, and a strong focus on stability, compliance, and customer experience.

Our client is a national financial services institution supporting the agricultural sector through specialised lending and developmental solutions. The environment is structured, regulated, service-centric, and committed to modernising its technology landscape.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead, integrate, and optimise the organisation’s IT infrastructure and service delivery strategy.
  • Drive capacity planning, scalability, and availability across all infrastructure layers.
  • Oversee 1st and 2nd line support, service desk operations, escalation management, and SLA adherence.
  • Manage data centre operations, including servers, cooling, UPS, fire systems, security, and housekeeping.
  • Ensure optimal design, implementation, and management of network and cloud infrastructure.
  • Maintain high network uptime and ensure adequate bandwidth for organisational needs.
  • Manage IT vendors, negotiate contracts, and oversee hardware, software, and licensing renewals.
  • Strengthen software asset management, governance, and compliance.
  • Lead disaster recovery readiness, annual DR testing, and IT business continuity planning.
  • Support cybersecurity teams by embedding strong infrastructure-level controls.
  • Provide leadership to the infrastructure and support teams, including performance management and capacity planning.
  • Oversee budgeting, governance, and major change or upgrade programmes within the IT infrastructure domain.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 10 years’ experience in infrastructure management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure support, operations, and service delivery.
  • Hands‑on proficiency in desktop, applications, networks (LAN / WAN / SAN), and data centre operations.
  • Strong grounding in database administration, service desk management, and end‑user support.
  • Solid background in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
  • Demonstrated vendor and contract management capability.
  • Exposure to ERP environments.
  • Deep understanding of data security, backup strategies, and IT operations.
What Success Looks Like
  • Infrastructure that is stable, secure, compliant, and optimised for performance.
  • SLAs consistently met and end‑user satisfaction measurably improved.
  • Modernised network and cloud landscape aligned to organisational strategy.
  • Predictable, well‑managed budgets and cost‑efficient infrastructure delivery.
  • A high‑performing, engaged, and well‑coordinated support and infrastructure team.
  • A DR environment that is tested, validated, and enterprise‑ready at all times.
