Role Overview
The IT Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance, and support of the organisation’s IT infrastructure. This role ensures system availability, data security, user support, and continuous improvement of IT operations across offices and remote teams.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, proactive, and capable of supporting users across multiple locations while maintaining secure and reliable systems.
Key Responsibilities
IT Operations & Support
- Provide first- and second-line IT support to end users (desktop, laptop, mobile, printers, networks)
- Install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, and peripherals
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights (Active Directory / Azure AD / Google Workspace)
- Troubleshoot system, network, and application issues and resolve within agreed SLAs
Systems & Infrastructure
- Maintain and monitor servers, networks, and cloud environments
- Support LAN, WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi, and firewall configurations
- Perform system updates, patches, backups, and recovery procedures
- Monitor system performance and implement improvements where required
Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain IT security policies and best practices
- Manage antivirus, endpoint protection, and data security measures
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g. POPIA, GDPR where applicable)
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning
Vendor & Asset Management
- Manage IT inventory, asset tracking, and licensing
- Liaise with external IT vendors, service providers, and ISPs
- Support procurement and rollout of new IT equipment and systems
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate IT documentation, procedures, and user guides
- Log incidents, service requests, and system changes
- Provide regular reports on system performance, risks, and improvements
Key Requirements
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- Relevant IT certifications (Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, etc.) are advantageous
Experience
- 20+ years’ experience in an IT Administrator or similar role
- Experience supporting users in a multi-site or distributed environment
- Hands-on experience with Windows environments (servers and desktops)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Microsoft 365, Azure, Google Workspace)
Technical Skills
- Windows Server & Desktop support
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs)
- Hardware and software troubleshooting
- Backup, recovery, and security tools
- Basic scripting or automation skills advantageous
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Excellent communication and user support skills
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
- High level of integrity and attention to detail
Desirable Experience
- Experience in Africa or emerging markets environments
- Exposure to ERP, CRM, or HR systems
- Experience supporting remote or expatriate teams
