Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Crop Protection Specialist to operate in a hybrid role with field work across farms in the Northern Cape. Based near Kimberley, you will design and implement Integrated Pest Management strategies, diagnose pest and disease issues, and advise farmers on best practices to protect crop health and yields.

The role combines remote data analysis, strategy development, and client communication to support sustainable farming across the region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Entomology, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, or related agricultural science field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in crop protection, pest management, or plant health.
• Strong knowledge of pest and disease cycles for key crops in the Northern Cape.
• Proven experience developing and implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field assessments to diagnose pest, disease, and weed problems affecting crops.
• Develop and implement IPM programs tailored to specific crops and farming systems.
• Recommend appropriate crop protection products and application techniques, emphasizing sustainable methods.
• Provide technical advice and training to farmers and farm managers on crop protection strategies.
• Monitor effectiveness of control measures and adjust strategies as needed.
• Stay abreast of new research, technologies, and regulations in crop protection and IPM.
• Collect and analyze data on pest incidence, disease outbreaks, and treatment efficacy.
• Collaborate with researchers, agronomists, and other agricultural professionals.
• Maintain accurate records of field inspections, recommendations, and outcomes.
• Contribute to the development of regional crop protection guidelines.
