The purpose of this position is to provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to gain exposure to a leading Corporate Finance franchise as part of a leading international bank – the experience will encompass both advisory and capital markets work (debt and equity).

Your key responsibilities
  • Front office, client‑centric role
  • Working on a variety of complex projects for leading local / pan‑African and global clients – which includes leading South African and African corporates and global clients with a presence in South Africa and Africa
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of new ideas to help clients achieve their strategic and financial objectives
  • Use of analytical skills and the ability to solve problems in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
  • Project management and involvement in execution of live transactions and pitches
  • Attend team discussions and client meetings and deliver parts of a presentation
  • Specific tasks will depend on the role within the team – to this end the role will vary from project to project
  • Tasks may include evaluating companies, financial analysis, developing models for M&A and capital markets transactions, preparing industry analyses for pitches, conducting research, project management and administration and providing support in the execution of live deals
  • Opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues both locally and offshore, evolve professionally and personally, and build a firm foundation upon which to specialise later
  • Interact with various sector and product teams across the bank, both onshore and offshore
  • Support senior bankers in origination and coverage efforts
  • Accurate provision of calculations and analysis
  • Drafting documentation, discussion materials and pitchbooks
  • Fulfilling and keeping up to date with various compliance and FAIS license requirements
  • Support the team with administrative tasks
  • Contribute positively to franchise building activities

Your skills and experience

We are looking for a candidate with the following credentials:

  • Minimum 12‑24 months prior experience in corporate finance
  • Demonstrable track record of seeking out M&A, advisory or capital markets experience (through university societies, vacation projects, internships, or the like) will be viewed positively
  • Strong technical skills including financial modelling, financial analysis and understanding of valuation methodologies
  • Conscientious, dedicated individual with excellent analytical skills
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal) and fluent in English
  • Strong proficiency with financial analytics software and Microsoft suite of products
  • Commercial instinct, demonstrable passion for finance and capital markets with an affinity for numbers
  • Results‑driven, perform well under pressure and against tight deadlines
  • Bright mind with excellent academic record
  • Team player with ability to manage a wide range of responsibilities and contribute to success of franchise
  • Committed to excellence and maintain high professional and ethical standards
  • Postgraduate degree a prerequisite (minimum Honours level)
  • Academic focus on business or the natural sciences; particularly finance, accounting, investment management, business administration, economics, mathematics, or engineering
