Position Purpose
  1. To manage, co-ordinate and control the Ports and Terminals Investigation function in accordance with the strategic plan in the respective Ports and Terminals / province and to consult on Provincial level with various internal and external role players.
  2. To proactively implement corrective, investigative and strategic measures.
  3. To protect Transnet assets and to prevent potential losses through theft and fraudulent activities.
  4. Responsible for the implementation of Transnet Port Terminals security policies, procedures and programs throughout the assigned geographical area.
  5. To ensure compliance for ISPS Audits.
Position Outputs
  1. Evaluate and determine which cases need to be opened under Criminal Matters Amendment Act.
  2. Prepare case dockets with impact statements, identification statements and photo albums.
  3. Ensure that all the information is recorded and updated on the investigation system, SIMA and share drive.
  4. Liaise and engage with NPA at Court to ensure cases are prosecuted under the correct law and all the necessary statements and evidence to ensure that bail is opposed and that convictions are received with maximum sentences.
  5. Liaise and engage with SAPS Detectives, DPCI and CI on the relevant cases.
  6. Investigation of internal and identified organized crime cases and providing expert testimony in court.
  7. Initiate or testify in internal disciplinary cases and CCMA matters which include aggravating circumstances.
  8. Ensure evidence collected is documented and safeguarded for use of disciplinary cases and testimony in court matters.
  9. Identifying gaps in the security environment and facilitating awareness sessions.
  10. Manages policies, procedures, standards and methods for identifying and protecting intellectual property, assets, employees, facilities, operations against theft, vandalism, sabotage or loss.
  11. Ensure a professional and effective response 24/7 to all security related incidents within the area of responsibility.
  12. Facilitate the appointment of and manage the provision of rendering a polygraph service.
  13. Manage all assets and vehicles allocated to the department to ensure proper utilization and adherence to good corporate governance and company vehicle policy.
  14. Attendance of Cluster SAPS Meetings / NFMCCC Meetings and Case Flow Management Meetings.
  15. Compile monthly case flow management stats for reports.
  16. Present correct information to Security Information Management and Investigations Manager and/or any other clients.
  17. Conduct project Investigation of high-profile cases within a Project Team.
  18. Service Provider Claim Investigations for negligence.
  19. Transnet Investigations policies and procedures in line with objectives.
  20. Exhibit control and disposal in accordance to Policy and SAPS.
  21. Assist with risk assessments.
  22. Attend to BOI where incidents took place and investigations were conducted.
  23. Upkeep of suspect database.
  24. Partake in Joint Operations with SAPS and other role-players to perform special operations and raids on scrap dealers to identify Transnet stolen property.
  25. Verification of assets under immediate control and use.
  26. Questioning and/or interrogation of suspects to obtain information on cases at hand.
  27. Submission of investigation reports to Security Information Management and Investigations Manager for approval and dissemination.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Senior Certificate (Matric)
  • 1-2 year post matric qualification in Investigations
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in investigation field within the security and/or crime prevention environment
  • An alternative for an applicant without relevant post matric qualification, must have 5 – 7 years-experience in the investigation field within the security and/ or crime prevention environment
  • PSIRA Grade A will be an added advantage (an applicant without PSIRA Grade A must acquire the certificate within 3 months of being appointed)
  • The applicant must have a code B drivers’ licence and be competent and prepared to drive
