Inventory Manager (Distribution Center) Location : Cape Town, South Africa Reporting to : Head of Supply Chain Employment Type : Full-Time

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Inventory Manager to join our Distribution Center team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our inbound stock is put away accurately, our outbound orders are picked efficiently, and that any inventory exceptions are identified and resolved quickly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Putaway Management: Oversee and coordinate the systematic and accurate placement of received stock into designated storage locations; ensure timely and correct handling unit labeling and scanning; optimize putaway routes to reduce handling time and increase productivity; maintain and improve location control systems and bin-level visibility.
  • Picking Oversight: Manage the picking team to ensure all orders are picked accurately and on time; develop and refine picking strategies (e.g., batch, wave, or zone picking) as the volume scales; track picking performance and accuracy metrics and implement training or improvements where needed.
  • Exception Management: Lead the investigation and resolution of all inventory-related exceptions (e.g., mis-picks, missing units, location mismatches, damages); work cross-functionally with the Receiving, Dispatch, and Tech teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions; maintain logs of exception trends and develop SOPs to prevent recurrence.
  • Process Optimization and Scaling: Design and implement scalable inventory control systems to support rapid warehouse growth; lead warehouse zoning, racking layout improvements, and space utilization strategies; collaborate with the tech team to improve WMS tracking and automation.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain real-time inventory accuracy across all SKUs and locations; prepare daily and weekly reports on inventory movements, exceptions, and KPIs; uphold safety, cleanliness, and compliance standards throughout the DC.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in inventory, warehousing, or supply chain operations.
  • Hands‑on experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and barcode scanning.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale processes and implement inventory control improvements.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead a team and train junior warehouse staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advantageous: Experience in fashion / retail warehousing or clearance stock handling.
