Intermediate SQL Administrator East Rand
The Intermediate to Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) is a key technical role responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of SQL Server databases. This position requires advanced expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, security, and disaster recovery.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 BSc Computer Science or equivalent qualification (advantageous)
- Proven SQL code creation experience
- Proven process analysis experience
- Systems understanding and test experience
Knowledge
- Knowledge of BI development
- Experience in SQL / BI solution design and development
- Familiarity with integration protocols
- Experience in delivering integrations (internal and external)
- Understanding of business operations and processes
Product Experience
- Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2019, 2022: 5-10 years
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS): 3-5 years
- SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS): 3-5 years
- SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS Tabular): Beneficial
- Microsoft Power BI (On-premises / Premium): Beneficial
Key Responsibilities
- Database Administration and Maintenance: Oversee installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of SQL Server instances. Apply patching, updates, and conduct regular health checks.
- Performance Tuning and Optimization: Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks. Implement solutions such as index optimization, query tuning, and capacity planning.
- High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Design, implement, and manage high availability solutions (AlwaysOn, replication, log shipping). Conduct backups, restores, and recovery plan testing.
- Security and Compliance: Enforce database security policies and manage user access and permissions. Ensure compliance with relevant data security standards and regulations.
- Collaboration and Support: Work closely with development, infrastructure, and IT teams. Support application development, data integration, and system upgrades.
- Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Proactively identify and resolve database-related incidents. Maintain performance within agreed SLAs.
- Mentorship and Guidance: Provide technical guidance to junior DBAs and team members.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to database architecture strategies. Align database management practices with business objectives and technology roadmaps.
