Job summary

TenacIT is seeking a Security Operations Engineer to join our growing security team. This role blends operational security with technical exploration to strengthen both internal and client environments.

You will work across teams to improve security posture, drive remediation, and contribute to scalable security processes and automation. This is an in-office role based in Gqeberha, SA.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years in security, infrastructure, systems administration, networking, or related technical roles.
• Experience working with security tooling and security investigations.
• Experience driving remediation efforts and coordinating across technical teams.
• Experience in MSP, MSSP, or managed services environments advantageous.
• Relevant security qualifications or certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and investigate security alerts across EDR, MDR and related platforms.
• Triaging and analysis of security events and suspicious activity.
• Assist with incident response activities and remediation coordination.
• Track security incidents through to resolution with clear communication.
• Support ongoing maturity of TenacIT's managed security services offering.
• Review vulnerability data and identify remediation priorities.
• Drive remediation efforts across technical teams and stakeholders.
• Investigate recurring weaknesses and propose improvements.
• Present security risks, vulnerabilities, and remediation progress to stakeholders.
• Participate in security reviews and governance meetings.
• Maintain visibility of security risks across the organisation.
• Research and implement Microsoft 365 security improvements.
• Review identity security, authentication controls and access management practices.

Job description

TenacIT is seeking a Security Operations Engineer to join our growing security team.

TenacIT has developed a mature and growing security capability supported by modern tooling, automation, and established operational processes. This role is suited to an engineer who enjoys both operational security and technical exploration, someone who can effectively manage existing security platforms while researching, evaluating, and implementing improvements that strengthen both our internal and client environments.

You will work across multiple teams and technologies to improve security posture, drive remediation efforts, support security tooling, investigate threats, and contribute to the development of scalable security processes and automation.

This is not a governance-only or compliance-only role. We are looking for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, solving security challenges operationally, and working with engineers to improve security outcomes across the business and our client environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and investigate security alerts across EDR, MDR, and related security platforms
• Perform triage and analysis of security events and suspicious activity
• Assist with incident response activities and remediation coordination
• Track security incidents through to resolution and ensure appropriate communication and documentation
• Support the ongoing maturity of TenacIT's managed security services offering

Vulnerability Management & Security Improvements

• Review vulnerability data and identify remediation priorities
• Drive remediation efforts across technical teams
• Investigate recurring security weaknesses and recommend improvements
• Present security risks, vulnerabilities, and remediation progress to internal stakeholders
• Participate in security review and council meetings
• Maintain visibility of security risks across the organisation

Microsoft 365 Security

• Research and implement Microsoft 365 security improvements
• Review identity security, authentication controls, and access management practices
• Support investigations relating to Microsoft 365 security events
• Assist with improving tenant security configurations and best practices

Security Tooling & Automation

Assist with the implementation, optimisation, and operational management of:

• MDR solutions
• EDR platforms
• Privileged Access Management (PAM)
• Security monitoring tools
• Internal security automation initiatives
• Work closely with development and infrastructure teams to improve security visibility and automation
• Contribute to the development of scalable security processes and workflows

TenacIT has invested significantly in security tooling, automation, internal RMM capabilities, and PAM development. This role will play a key part in leveraging those platforms effectively.

Cross-Functional Security Leadership

• Act as a security resource across all technical departments
• Provide security input during infrastructure, networking, desktop, and software initiatives
• Assist teams in understanding security risks and implementing practical mitigation strategies
• Promote security best practices throughout the organisation
• Work closely with desktop, network, infrastructure, and development teams to strengthen overall security posture

Process Development & Continuous Improvement

• Help define and improve security-related operational processes
• Develop dashboards, reporting, and visibility around security posture
• Contribute to automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency
• Assist in developing scalable security frameworks as TenacIT's security services continue to evolve

The role includes ownership of security-related processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
