General funds, beginning Spring 2026, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. May be for Leeward CC day, evening, or weekend offerings on and off campus, such as Leeward CC Waianae Moku and local high schools (pending background clearance), grant locations, or other satellite campuses.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, develop curriculum evaluation for and teach a wide range of HIT courses in traditional, online, and hybrid/blended learning environments.
  • Related work activities include, but are not limited to, participating in program national accreditation, assisting in campus‑related student activities; collaborating with business and industry, working with faculty to develop innovative HIT initiatives that meet community workforce development needs; participating in faculty and administrative committees, community service, and in‑service training; maintaining an approved program of professional self‑improvement; collecting data and preparing reports; preparing, adapting, and revising curriculum and student learning outcomes; independently planning, organizing, and carrying out instructional and non‑instructional assignments; and improve student learning based on results of assessment data.
  • Duties may include, but are not limited to, assignments involving work‑based learning and/or distance education, advising and counseling of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in any field, AND Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification OR coding and specialty credentials of Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician‑based (CCS‑P), Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP), Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA), OR Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS); OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field AND 3 years related work experience, AND Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification OR coding and specialty credentials of Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician‑based (CCS‑P), Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP), Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA), OR Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS).

Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Current (within 6 months - 1 year) work‑based experience in a facility (non‑contract employment).
  • Current (within 6 months - 1 year) work experience in one of the following departments: coding, revenue cycle, cancer registry, ROI, and/or other medical‑related environment.
  • Teaching experience at the postsecondary level in various delivery modes, including online (distance) education and in‑person.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with peers to achieve program and organizational goals.
  • Experience in a variety of HIM technology (Epic, Meditech, Cerner, 3M/Solventum, Nuance Clintegrity, McKesson Horizon Patient Folder, Metriq, etc.).
  • Current (within 1 year) leadership position in a facility.
  • Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population, including students with disabilities, students with a wide range of abilities, students from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, and nontraditional students.
