Job Description Summary

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses in electrical and instrumentation, including Instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controllers, Control System Communications, Power Distribution, Electrical Troubleshooting and Motor Controls.

Designs and implements effective learning processes for students, provides feedback on student improvement in attaining Western Goals for Student Success, and maintains course integrity and standards.

Teaches courses in a variety of environments and modes—classroom, lab, online, between evenings and weekends in Rock Springs, and through customized short courses for local industry.

Advises students, updates advising information, recommends course schedules, recruits and mentors adjunct instructors, and prepares course outlines.

Develops effective working relationships with colleagues, community professionals, and industry partners; organizes advisory councils, collaborates with the School Chair and Dean of Outreach, and recruits students through high school and industry outreach.

Maintains and repairs lab and training equipment, ensures a reasonable schedule of office hours, and actively participates in the College’s Assessment Program.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field and four years of professional experience in industrial or residential electrical work.
  • Alternate: Associate’s degree in electrical and instrumentation or related field and six years of professional experience, or no degree but eight years of professional experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of oil and gas, mining, processing plant, or power plant industry concepts, technologies, principles, and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, colleagues, local industry, and administrators.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment in all facets of the student‑teacher relationship and ability to teach a diverse community college student body.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and evidence of continued professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at a community college.
  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations.
