We are seeking an accomplished and strategically minded Institutional Client Services / Business Development / Client Liaison Officer to join our institutional investment team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and expanding relationships with institutional investors, consultants, and intermediaries, while driving business growth and ensuring service excellence across all stages of the client lifecycle. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of investment management, institutional client servicing, business development strategy, and regulatory frameworks across both local and global markets.
The successful incumbent will serve as the primary liaison between the organisation and its institutional clients, ensuring that every interaction upholds the highest standards of professionalism, technical expertise, and client care.
Key Responsibilities
Institutional Relationship Management & Business Development
- Develop, strengthen, and retain long-term institutional client relationships.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in alignment with strategic growth objectives.
- Manage relationships with consultants, brokers, and intermediaries, ensuring service excellence and client satisfaction.
- Oversee the business development incentive and expense budget, ensuring optimal allocation and ROI.
- Track and report on performance metrics, industry trends, and business development outcomes.
Due Diligence & Onboarding
- Conduct comprehensive due diligence for new and existing institutional clients and investment platforms.
- Manage KYC and AML documentation for counterparties and service providers, ensuring compliance with global standards.
Data Management & Regulatory Reporting
- Maintain accuracy of static and dynamic data across internal systems (Neoxam, FIS, Oracle Flexcube).
- Liaise with data providers and oversee EMT / EPT MiFID reporting for global clients.
- Prepare regulatory reports including Regulation 28, PRI, CRISA, Stewardship, Sustainable Finance, and Proxy Voting disclosures.
- Ensure compliance with FSCA, FCA, SARB, MAS, FINMA, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
Client Communication & Service Excellence
- Serve as the primary point of contact for institutional clients (South Africa and international).
- Manage client communications, address queries, and provide timely, accurate information.
- Promote digital transformation in client servicing, leveraging CRM systems, automation, and data insights to enhance client experience.
- Personalise client engagement and build a deep understanding of client objectives and investment mandates.
Tender Management
- Coordinate and prepare RFPs, RFIs, and due diligence questionnaires.
- Develop professional presentation packs and support documents for institutional mandates.
CPD Coordination & Compliance
- Liaise with professional bodies and service providers to plan and execute accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes.
- Ensure all representatives meet CPD and compliance obligations, and maintain accurate training and attendance records.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Statistics (essential)
- CFA qualification (preferred)
- MBA (advantageous)
- Minimum 5+ years’ post‑qualification experience within asset management or financial services
- Proven experience in institutional client servicing, business development, and relationship management
- In‑depth knowledge of segregated, pooled, and unitised investment products
- Strong understanding of investment administration processes and client reporting standards
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills
- High degree of professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders
Skills
- Institutional client management and sales expertise
- Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., Reg 28, FAIS, POPIA, MiFID II)
- Exposure to global markets and multi‑jurisdictional reporting
- Strong analytical, reporting, and data management capabilities
