Job summary

Sabenza IT & Recruitment is seeking a Senior Information Security Specialist in Johannesburg, South Africa. You will shape how threats are stopped, own critical security platforms, and mentor aspiring security professionals in a fast-moving, complex environment.

You will lead security operations, governance, risk management, and compliance initiatives while collaborating with technology teams and business stakeholders to raise the security posture across the organisation.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years in IT, with 3–5 years specialising in Information Security technologies
• CISSP and CISM (both mandatory)
• Hands-on experience implementing and supporting enterprise security solutions
• Strong background in security operations, governance, risk, and compliance
• Experience mentoring technical teams

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex security technology issues while keeping systems stable
• Monitor, configure, and optimise enterprise security solutions (SIEM, firewalls, endpoint, cloud, IAM)
• Analyse security logs, alerts, and reports to detect threats and anomalies early
• Independently implement and validate low, medium, and high-risk security changes
• Identify and mitigate information security risks meeting policies and regulations
• Review projects and designs to integrate security from the start
• Run Proof of Concepts and evaluate emerging security technologies
• Mentor and coach Information Security Analysts and Administrators

What You’ll Do

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex security technology issues while keeping critical systems stable and available
• Monitor, configure, and optimise enterprise security solutions (SIEM, firewalls, endpoint, cloud, IAM, and more)

Requirements

What You Bring

• Matric + Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in IT, Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or Engineering
• CISSP and CISM (both mandatory)
• 10–15 years in IT, with 3–5 years specialising in Information Security technologies
• At least 2 years in a senior technical or specialist role
• Hands‑on experience implementing and supporting enterprise security solutions
• Strong background in security operations, governance, risk, and compliance
• Experience mentoring technical teams

Advantageous

• CEH, CompTIA Security+, GIAC certifications, Microsoft Security certifications, CCSP, or ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor. Banking or financial services experience is a strong plus.
