Placements24 is seeking a Research Scientist to join a leading infectious diseases research institute in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on experimental design, data collection and interpretation within a multidisciplinary team of experts.

You will conduct laboratory experiments, utilize molecular biology and immunology techniques, and contribute to the development of diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics while upholding rigorous safety and data integrity standards.

Qualifications

• Masters or PhD in microbiology, immunology, virology or molecular biology.
• 3–5 years of relevant research experience in infectious diseases.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory experiments and research studies on infectious diseases.
• Design and execute experiments, including sample prep, data collection, and analysis.
• Maintain detailed laboratory records of procedures, results and observations.
• Interpret research findings and their implications for disease understanding and interventions.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and ensure calibration.
• Collaborate with senior scientists and team members on projects.
• Stay up-to-date with scientific literature and advancements.
• Prepare data for presentations and potential publications.
• Ensure compliance with biosafety, guidelines and ethical standards.
