MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To ensure the implementation and maintenance of a functional Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme at the hospital level

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Identify, mitigate and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control
  • Investigate, analyse and interpret clinical data and act upon findings
  • Ensure adherence to statutory bodies
  • Identify training needs in the hospital and provide input in the development of training material
  • Influence and equip hospital teams to understand and comply to IPC policies and principles
  • Provide support with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager
  • Continuous professional development
REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • ESSENTIAL EDUCATION : Nursing qualification (degree or diploma)
  • DESIRED EDUCATION : Formal IPC course / Post Graduate diploma in IPC
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE : 3-5 Years working in a hospital environment as a professional healthcare practitioner
  • DESIRED EXPERIENCE : 1 – 2 years IPC related work, supervision of a small team
REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Conducting a system analysis of healthcare,associated infections and institute preventative measures
  • Interpretation and application of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions
  • Auditing (e.g. compliance to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning audits)
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
