Qualifications

  • Nursing qualification required for the role.
  • Formal IPC course or relevant postgraduate diploma is preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital environment as a healthcare practitioner is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain an IPC programme at the hospital level.
  • Identify and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Support patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager.

Conducting a system analysis of healthcare-associated infections and institute preventative measures
Interpretation and application of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions
Auditing (e.g. compliance to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning audits)

Main Purpose of Job

To ensure the implementation and maintenance of a functional Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme at the hospital level.

Key Responsibility Areas
  • Identify, mitigate and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control
  • Investigate, analyse and interpret clinical data and act upon findings
  • Ensure adherence to statutory bodies
  • Identify training needs in the hospital and provide input in the development of training material
  • Influence and equip hospital teams to understand and comply with IPC policies and principles
  • Provide support with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager
  • Continuous professional development
Required Education
  • Nursing qualification (degree or diploma)
Desired Education
  • Formal IPC course / Post Graduate diploma in IPC
Required Experience
  • 3-5 Years working in a hospital environment as a professional healthcare practitioner
Desired Experience
  • 1–2 years IPC related work, supervision of a small team
