Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Services Technician for a healthcare facility in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on cleanliness and infection control to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

You will perform routine and deep cleaning of patient areas, manage waste, operate cleaning equipment, and follow PPE guidelines. The position requires reliability, attention to detail, and flexibility to cover evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Experience in cleaning, preferably in healthcare or high-standard environments.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and disinfection best practices.
• Understanding of infection control principles and standard precautions.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures accurately.
• Good physical condition and stamina for lifting and standing long shifts.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or in a team.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.
• Basic English communication.

Responsibilities

• Clean patient rooms, wards, operating theatres, labs, and admin areas.
• Disinfect surfaces, equipment, and instruments per infection control protocols.
• Manage and dispose of regulated medical waste per health regulations.
• Sanitize common areas: hallways, waiting rooms, restrooms, cafeterias.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums).
• Restock cleaning supplies and manage inventory.
• Respond to spills, emergencies, and biohazard events promptly.
• Follow laundry procedures and waste management procedures.
• Wear PPE and follow safety guidelines.
• Maintain professional demeanor with patients and staff.
