Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Hygiene Team Lead in Pietermaritzburg to oversee sanitation in a food processing facility. You will guide a team of sanitation workers, implement detailed cleaning schedules, ensure compliance with food safety standards, and train staff in proper sanitation techniques and PPE usage.

The role requires leadership, strong communication, and the ability to work flexible hours including weekends.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in sanitation or cleaning in a food processing or industrial environment.
• Experience in a lead or supervisory role is essential.
• Strong knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP, GMP) and sanitation best practices.
• Understanding of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and sanitation equipment.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to train and motivate a team effectively.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of sanitation technicians in daily cleaning and hygiene tasks.
• Develop, implement, and enforce cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures for all facility areas.
• Ensure all cleaning activities comply with food safety regulations and policies.
• Train new team members on sanitation techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
• Monitor inventory and usage of cleaning chemicals and supplies; maintain stock levels.
• Conduct regular inspections of equipment, lines, and areas to identify hygiene deficiencies.
