Placements24 in Kimberley, Northern Cape, is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead the development, training, and deployment of sophisticated ML models addressing business challenges. You will mine data, engineer features, and collaborate with data engineers to integrate models into production systems.

You will translate complex findings into clear recommendations for stakeholders, mentor junior data scientists, and stay current with ML advancements in a hybrid office/remote setup.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, with a focus on Machine Learning.
• Strong programming skills in Python or R, including libraries like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Pandas, and NumPy.
• Proven experience with various ML algorithms (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, deep learning).
• Experience with SQL and working with relational databases.
• Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
• Excellent understanding of statistical modeling and experimental design.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, train, and deploy sophisticated machine learning models to address business challenges.
• Perform data mining, data cleansing, and feature engineering on large, complex datasets.
• Identify and explore new data sources to enhance model accuracy and business impact.
• Evaluate and compare different modeling techniques, selecting the most appropriate ones for specific problems.
• Collaborate with data engineers and software developers to integrate ML models into production systems.
• Communicate complex findings and model performance to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in machine learning, AI, and data science.
• Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the team's knowledge base.
• Design and conduct A/B tests and other experiments to validate model effectiveness.
• Contribute to the development of data science best practices and standards.
