Job summary

Placements24 is partnering with a leading human health genomics research organization to hire a Senior Bioinformatician in Paarl, Western Cape. The role focuses on analyzing large-scale genomic data, including WGS, exome, and RNA-Seq, to identify genetic variants related to disease and population diversity.

You will develop pipelines, collaborate with researchers, and translate complex data into biological insights in a hybrid work setup combining home-based focused work with on-site

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genetics, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in bioinformatics with a focus on genomic data analysis.
• Proficiency in Python or Perl, and shell scripting.
• Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases (GATK, Samtools, VCFtools, Ensembl).
• Familiarity with various NGS data types and analysis methodologies.
• Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization techniques.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and execute bioinformatics pipelines for NGS data.
• Perform variant calling, annotation, and interpretation for WGS, exome, and RNA-Seq.
• Analyze population genetic data to understand variation and disease.
