Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Process Chemist to join our pharmaceutical development team in East London. The role involves developing, optimizing, and scaling up synthesis for APIs, with a hybrid work arrangement combining lab work and remote data analysis.

You will collaborate with formulation, analytical, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, cost-effective processes, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance in a dynamic pharma environment.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in process chemistry, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong knowledge of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and scale-up principles.
• Experience with analytical techniques for compound characterization and purity assessment.
• Proficiency in process safety evaluation and risk assessment.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills for effective collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs suitable for pilot and commercial scale manufacturing.
• Conduct process hazard assessments and implement safety measures for chemical processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during process scale-up and manufacturing.
• Characterize reaction intermediates and final products using analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, and NMR.
• Prepare comprehensive process documentation, including batch records and validation reports.
• Collaborate with formulation, analytical, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful drug substance development.
