Hybrid Learning Coordinator (Post Level 8) – Stellenbosch Campus

Overview
The Centre for Sustainability Transitions (CST) is a leading research and postgraduate training centre within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at Stellenbosch University (SU). It brings together research on transdisciplinary approaches, complexity, sustainability, governance and social‑ecological resilience to inform pressing national, continental, and global sustainability and development challenges. This research also forms the foundation for the CST’s postgraduate training programmes, which include a postgraduate diploma, an MPhil and a PhD programme in Sustainable Development, as well as various short courses.
The CST hosts leading scientists and students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds and fosters collaborations with a variety of departments across the University, nationally and globally, providing a vibrant hub for solution‑oriented, transdisciplinary sustainability science, that is primarily funded from external research grants.
The primary objective of the CST is to co‑produce transformational knowledge on the dynamics of multi‑scale, social‑ecological and socio‑technical change in partnership with key stakeholders, and thereby provide strategic insights into the new modes of research and governance that can bring about a just transition to a more equitable and sustainable society.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the development and renewal of teaching, learning and assessment resources, policies and guidelines to support the shift to hybrid learning offerings at CST, focusing on the Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Sustainable Development and short courses.
- Co‑lead and support the development and coordination of short course offerings, leveraging core PGDip programme content and CST research.
- advanced learning design knowledge to conceptualise and operationalise the PGDip’s hybrid learning strategy.
- Support module teams in translating curriculum content into appropriate teaching, learning and assessment activities aligned with the hybrid learning structure.
- Facilitate orientation, onboarding and training activities for staff and students to ensure effective use of EMSLearn, MS Teams, and MySUN.
- Coordinate communication with module and short course students, convenors, lecturers and relevant University departments.
- Facilitate and manage both in‑person and online learning environments, ensuring smooth day‑to‑day operations and a transformative student learning experience.
- Coordinate teaching, learning and assessment processes for modules, including content packaging, updates, submission management and assessment coordination.
- Oversee administration and facilitation of teaching, learning and assessment platforms, including LMS, MS Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint.
- Assist with the coordination of the teaching and learning team within CST, facilitating coordination meetings and supporting team collaboration.
- Support quality assurance, curriculum review and renewal processes by integrating feedback from students, lecturers, facilitators and moderators.
- Support ongoing curriculum renewal and transformation through critical review, reflection and contribution to annual programme planning and design.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery and continuous improvement of CST’s hybrid learning programmes.
Job Requirements / Pos Vereistes
- A relevant bachelor’s degree or three‑year tertiary qualification.
- At least three years’ experience in the educational use and technical support of learning management systems (e.g., Moodle).
- At least three years’ relevant work experience in a higher education or adult training context.
- Solid understanding of various modes of delivery in South African higher education, including contact, blended, hybrid and online learning.
- Proven ability to design visually engaging and user‑friendly course layouts that align with universal design for learning (UDL) principles.
- Experience with using SCORM‑compliant tools such as Articulate, iSpring or H5P.
- Knowledge of audio and video pedagogy suitable for online learning environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management and coordination capabilities, with experience managing diverse teams.
- Highly organised and methodical, with the ability to build and improve institutional processes that support hybrid learning.
- Demonstrated commitment to student support and the creation of transformative learning experiences.
- The ability to contribute to curriculum renewal and transformation through critical reflection and review.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, including subject‑matter experts, multimedia designers and technical and administrative staff.
- The ability to lead and innovate in the development of new hybrid teaching approaches and materials.
- The capacity to work independently, meet deadlines and thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Recommendation / Aanbeveling
- A tertiary qualification in higher education, instructional design or sustainability science.
- A postgraduate qualification.
- Research experience and outputs related to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Experience with facilitating learning in adult education or higher education contexts.
- Proven ability to create reusable learning design templates and guidelines adopted at an institutional or organisational level.
- Experience with HTML coding in Moodle.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Canva.
