Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Diagnostic Automotive Engineer in Rustenburg to lead development of diagnostic software and hardware for next‑generation vehicles. The role requires strong analytical skills and collaboration across hardware, software and systems teams to implement robust diagnostic capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years in automotive diagnostics or related engineering discipline.
• Strong knowledge of CAN, LIN and Ethernet networks and diagnostic protocols (UDS/DoIP).
• Proficiency in C++, Python or similar for diagnostic software/hardware.
• Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and embedded ECUs.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test and refine diagnostic software and hardware for automotive systems.
• Analyze vehicle performance data to identify root causes and improvements.
• Design and implement diagnostic protocols and testing procedures.
• Collaborate with hardware, software and systems teams to integrate diagnostics.
• Troubleshoot electrical and software issues in prototype and production vehicles.
• Document procedures, findings and recommendations; ensure knowledge sharing.
• Stay updated on advancements in automotive diagnostics and industry standards.
• Support manufacturing and field service teams with diagnostic expertise.
