A leading educational institution in Johannesburg is seeking a Human Resource Manager to lead and manage its Human Resources function. This role involves strategic leadership in HR, recruitment, development, and retention of staff. The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of senior HR management experience, a relevant qualification, and strong knowledge of South African labour law. This role is essential for maintaining a culture of excellence aligned with the institution's values.
To lead and manage an integrated Human Resources function that advances Redhill School's mission, strengthens its professional culture, and ensures the recruitment, development, and retention of outstanding staff.
Reporting directly to the Executive Head, the Human Resource Manager will design and implement people strategies and policies that support the school's educational objectives and long‑term sustainability.
The role will work closely with the Executive Head and senior management to ensure that Redhill attracts, develops, and retains high‑performing, values‑aligned staff across academic and support functions.
Implement an HR strategy that supports the school's strategic priorities under the direction of the Executive Head.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Head and management team on all people‑related matters.
Foster a professional culture of excellence, inclusivity, accountability, and continuous learning.
Provide strategic input on workforce planning, organisational design, and succession planning.
Oversee all HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, payroll coordination, and compliance.
Ensure that HR policies and procedures are current, legally compliant, and aligned with best practice in education.
Manage staff welfare, employee engagement, and workplace culture initiatives.
Develop and oversee an annual professional development framework for all teaching and non‑teaching staff.
Identify training needs and coordinate high‑quality learning opportunities that align with the school's goals.
Support and guide line managers in developing their teams effectively.
Support the design and implementation of performance appraisal and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) systems.
Assist senior leaders and line managers in conducting fair and developmental performance reviews.
Use appraisal feedback to inform professional development and workforce planning.
Manage recruitment and selection processes to attract top‑quality teaching and support staff.
Strengthen Redhill's reputation as an employer of choice.
Support retention and engagement initiatives that promote staff commitment.
Champion a positive, inclusive, and collaborative staff culture consistent with Redhill's values.
Design and facilitate initiatives that promote staff wellbeing, morale, and professional fulfilment.
Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion across all HR practices and policies.
Ensure full compliance with South African labour legislation and relevant educational regulatory frameworks.
Oversee employee contracts, disciplinary processes, and grievance procedures.
Maintain accurate and confidential HR records and oversee HR data integrity.
Provide input and benchmarking data to support compensation and benefits reviews.
Ensure payroll coordination and HR administration operate smoothly and transparently.
A relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, or a related field (postgraduate qualification advantageous).
Minimum of 7 years' experience in a senior HR management role, preferably in the education or professional services sector.
Proven experience in strategic HR implementation, performance management, and professional development.
Strong knowledge of South African labour law and HR best practice.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
High emotional intelligence, integrity, and a genuine interest in people and culture.
