About the Role
The HR Generalist is responsible for delivering comprehensive HR support across SSA employee lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on payroll administration and compliance. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, supports HR operations, and contributes to strategic HR initiatives. The ideal candidate combines deep payroll knowledge with broad HR competencies to enhance employee experience and operational efficiency
Responsibilities
Payroll Management
- Oversee monthly payroll processing ensuring accuracy and statutory compliance (UIF, PAYE, SDL).
- Collaborate with Finance for payroll reconciliations and reporting.
- Administer employee benefits including medical aid, provident funds, and leave balances.
- Address payroll queries and ensure data integrity across ESS systems.
- Administer end-to-end payroll processing for multiple regions or entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local labor laws and tax regulations.
- Collaborate with Finance to reconcile payroll data and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain payroll records and generate reports for audits, budgeting, and compliance.
- Manage statutory filings, benefits deductions, and leave encashments.
HR Operations
- Support onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle processes.
- Maintain HRIS and employee records, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
- Assist in policy implementation, employee relations, and performance management processes.
- Coordinate benefits administration and liaise with providers.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR System data.
- Assistance with Quality and Financial Audit
- Document control for your area of responsibility in line with the ISO standards
- Assisting employees with HR related queries where possible, in a timely professional manner
- Coordinate interview scheduling and candidate communications.
Reporting & Analytics
- Generate HR and payroll reports for management.
- Monitor HR metrics (e.g., turnover, headcount, cost of employment).
- Submit statutory reports (e.g., EE, WSP/ATR) to relevant authorities.
Skills Development and B-BBEE
- HR related project tasks for the local organization
- Ensure compliance with the country’s labour requirements
- Organization of trainings and sourcing of accredited training providers
- Coordination of skills training for employees, as well as for the Learners within the company
- Maintaining accurate Training Records
- Conducting Learnership interviews and placement in line with B-BBEE strategy
- Preparation and submission of the B-BBEE audit file for the verification process
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial Psychology, or related field.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of payroll processes and compliance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in ESS and payroll software.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Proficiency in ESS and payroll systems (e.g., Sage 300 People, Pay Space).
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in HR operations and employee lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of B-BBEE compliance and reporting.
