Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) - Johannesburg

We're on the lookout for an experienced HR Business Partner to join a newly established, large scale steel manufacturing plant in Nigel. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an HR professional with a background in the Steel, Metal, or Construction industries to play a foundational role in developing, implementing, and embedding HR practices from the ground up.

You’ll be a key strategic partner to business leaders, shaping the company's people strategy and supporting the organization's growth from its earliest stages.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head Office HR Manager, this position is ideal for a seasoned HR Business Partner who excels at both strategic thinking and hands‑on execution. You will play a pivotal role in advising and supporting management, leading critical HR initiatives, overseeing industrial relations, and ensuring the smooth delivery of core HR functions within a dynamic and fast paced environment.

Core Responsibilities
General HR Operations & Advisory
  • Provide expert HR support across all levels of management.
  • Guide and advise on labour legislation and best practices.
  • Maintain effective HR administration and documentation.
Policies, Compliance and Governance
  • Drafting and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Identify compliance risks and recommend policy improvements.
  • Ensure adherence to labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EE Act, etc.).
HR Projects & Change Management
  • Lead strategic HR projects and change initiatives.
  • Support restructuring and transformation processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in HR practices.
Performance & Talent Management
  • Develop departmental goals and establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Performance Areas (KPAs) for effective employee performance management.
  • Oversee performance management cycles.
  • Support management on monthly performance reviews.
  • Identify training needs and support succession planning.
Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Collaborate with the Recruitment Manager on sourcing, interviews, onboarding, and employee induction.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation for new hires.
Payroll, Compensation & Benefits
  • Oversee payroll administration, compliance, and reporting.
  • Manage employee benefits, bonuses, and statutory submissions (UIF, EMP, etc.).
  • Registration & termination of staff/employees on ufiling.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliations and payroll-related queries are resolved.
Employee Relations
  • Handle disciplinary matters, hearings, and conflict resolution.
  • Represent the company at the CCMA.
  • Maintain a healthy employee‑management relationship.
HR Reporting & Analytics
  • Compile and present HR metrics and dashboards.
  • Analyse HR data to support decision‑making and planning.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Minimum: Honours degree in HRM, HRD, Organizational Psychology (NQF 8)
  • Advantageous: Master’s degree (NQF 9)
  • Experience: 6–10 years HR generalist experience; 3+ years in a senior HRBP
  • Strong working knowledge of SA labour legislation and HR governance
  • Experience with HRIS systems and MS Office Suite
  • Exposure to steel, metal, or construction industries is essential
  • Valid driver’s licence required
