Fruitways is a leading agri-business in South Africa. We specialise in the growing, packing and marketing of apples and pears to retailers, traders and wholesalers around the globe.

HR Officer

We’re looking for a self-motivated, service-oriented and highly organised HR Officer to keep processes smooth, data accurate, and our people supported. You’ll deliver high-quality HR service, from hiring and onboarding to engagement, learning, IR support and compliance. If you’re organised, people-centred and love making things happen, this role is for you.

Location: Somerset West (travel between our operational units may be required from time to time).

What you’ll do
Develop
  • Own and deliver onboarding and induction for our new employees.
  • Partner with line managers to set 30/60/90-day plans and capture progress.
  • Coordinate training logistics, maintain training records; capture and validate data for WSP/ATR submissions and SETA audits.
  • Support bursary administration and student liaison, ensuring all documents are submitted on time.
  • Keep organograms updated with movements and role changes.
Engage
  • Draft and distribute newsletters and people updates; manages surveys and follow-ups.
  • Coordinate recognition initiatives, birthdays and social news; support year-end/kick-off and team-building events.
  • Schedule HR info sessions and engagement roadshows with managers and teams.
Retain
  • Be a trusted first point of contact for HR queries and support.
  • Support IR processes and consistent policy application.
  • Conduct exit interviews; track themes and share insights.
  • Support HR, EE, and BBBEE evidence collation for audits.
HR Operations
  • Prepare monthly HR dashboards and ad-hoc reports for leaders.
  • Maintain master templates, SOPs and checklists; continuously improve processes.
  • Arrange sit‑in travel/meeting logistics for HR activities.
What you’ll bring
  • HR-related Degree or National Diploma (HR/ Social or Behavioural Sciences).
  • 3+ years in an HR administrative/ HR Officer or generalist support role within a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint): comfortable with HRIS/LMS tools.
  • Experience supporting WSP/ATR submissions and SETA audits.
  • Exposure to EE/BBBEE evidence collation and HR audits.
  • Proactive, accountable self-starter: anticipates needs and takes ownership end-to-end; organised and detail-driven; practical problem-solver who improves processes; resilient and adaptable under pressure; follows through and delivers.
