We are Hiring : HR Officer (2IC to HR Manager)

We're looking for a dynamic HR Officer to act as Second-in-Command (2IC) to the HR Manager at a leading manufacturing company based in Cape Town. This role is ideal for someone who can operate independently, handle complex IR matters, and serve as a key partner to the HR Manager across operational HR functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as 2IC to the HR Manager, supporting with day-to-day HR operations and acting in the HR Manager's absence when required.
  • Manage and oversee employee relations and disciplinary processes in line with labour legislation and company policies.
  • Represent the employer at the Dispute Resolution Centre (MIBCO), including conciliations and arbitrations.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with shop stewards and union officials, supporting collective bargaining and consultative processes.
  • Assist in implementing HR strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with operational goals and compliance requirements.
  • Support workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and training initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with MIBCO Main Agreement and statutory obligations.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to line managers on HR and IR best practices.
Requirements
  • A Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in HR, with at least 3 years' IR / ER experience in a unionised manufacturing environment.
  • Solid knowledge of South African labour law and MIBCO Main Agreement, as well as experience representing the employer in disputes.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficient in MS Office and HRIS systems.
