Purpose of the Role
To provide comprehensive HR operational support across all areas including recruitment, industrial relation, HR administration, training, and HR systems management. The role ensures the smooth day-to-day functioning of the HR department, supports compliance, and strengthens employee relations in a highly regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
About the role
As our HR Generalist, you will:
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Oversee operational level recruitment and selection for operators, packers and other production roles
- Liaise with line managers to define job needs and coordinate shortlisting and interviews
- Oversee onboarding, induction, and new employee documentation
Industrial Relations
- Handle daily IR matters: warnings, hearings, grievances, and consultations
- Ensure accurate record-keeping of disciplinary actions
- Engage regularly with supervisors and shop stewards to maintain positive labour relations
Time & Attendance Management
- Manage and maintain the Trach Tech / Webregister system
- Track clock-ins, overtime, absenteeism, and leave trends
- Prepare validated data for Group Payroll submission
HR Administration & HRIS Maintenance
- Maintain accurate employee records and update the HR Information Systems (HRIS)
- Manage employee life cycle data (appointments, changes, exits)
- Prepare monthly HR reports on headcount, absenteeism, and turnover
- Ensure compliance with BCEA, internal HR policies, and take ownership of EE data management and submissions
Training & Development
- Coordinate skills, technical, and Health & Safety training across departments
- Maintain training registers, attendance records, and training matrix
- Coordinate WSP / ATR and maintain SETA compliance
- Identify training needs in collaboration with supervisors and HR Manager
Employee Engagement & Communication
- Support HR Manager with staff engagement, wellness, and communication initiatives
- Plan and execute internal social events, team-building, and recognition activities
Job Requirements
What we're looking for
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Management or related field
- Minimum 3 years as a HR Officer or HR Generalist in a manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment
- Proficient in MS Office and PaySpace; exposure to Trac Tech / Webregister advantageous
- Knowledge of SETA submissions, EE reporting, and Health & Safety training administration
- Strong people orientation with a genuine passion for working directly with employees and building positive workplace relationships
