A leading manufacturing company in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking an experienced HR Manager to drive strategic and operational HR initiatives. The successful candidate will have over 10 years of HR experience particularly in industrial relations within a manufacturing environment. This role offers a chance to develop and align the HR strategy with the company's goals while ensuring compliance with local legislation and fostering a positive workplace culture.

Qualifications

The position holder is responsible for driving all strategic and operational HR initiatives for the respective plant / group of plants, in line with the Divisional HR strategy, Group policies and guidelines.

Part of local Management Committee which consist of Head of Cluster & Managing Director, SVP, Head of Operations, Head of Sales, Head of Finance, Head of Production.

Team and also a business partner to the local operational team respective.

Interface with Group HR on the division guidelines in terms of achieving key human resources objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Member of local Executive Management Team (ManCo) consists of Managing Director, Head of Procurement, Head of Supply Chain, Head of Sales, Head of Quality and HSSE, Head of Operations, Heads of Production, Head of Commercial, Head of Finance.
  • Responsible for setting local human resources strategy and drive all strategic and operational human resources initiatives for the Group of Companies, in line with the Group HR Strategy, policies and guidelines.
  • Ensures the implementation of corporate standards, structures, processes and guidelines across the employee-life cycle.
  • Overall responsibility for core processes of Talent Management (Recruitment, Succession and Retention) Training and Development, Performance Management, components of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE), Compensation and Benefits, Employee Relations.
  • Drives required organizational development projects and implement organizational changes
  • Provides professional daily human resources advice to local ManCo, managers, employees and ensure human resources administration in accordance to local legislation, basics are delivered on time every time with a focus on high level of process excellence.
  • Responsible for annual people budgeting process, which involves forecasting budgeted headcount requirements, trends, and variances for people headcount.
  • Monthly reporting and usage of dashboards to track various human resources KPI’s such as overtime, employee turnover, absenteeism, and various training metrices.
  • Ensures learning and development of employees is in line with company needs through on the job training, employee study assistance, apprentices, graduates and employee’s children’s bursary programmes.
  • Proactively manage local compensation and benefits activities which include salary benchmarks, policies and practices, functional bonuses and benefits, fringe benefits.
  • Responsible for the Ethical Sourcing Programme implementation in the Company which involves adhering to SMETA guidelines and be subjected to annual ESG Audits in line with the SEDEX programme.
  • Complies with country and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Where applicable, drive local HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment) initiatives in close collaboration with operations and local management.
  • Key driver of company culture and people culture – adapt local culture programme HERO and coordinates company information sharing via Africomms.
  • Provide support and be part of the Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma continuous improvement culture.
  • Responsible for implementing Wellbeing Programme in line with Group Wellbeing programme, which is localised for South Africa.
  • Wellbeing programme, consist of access to appointed Wellbeing Officers and a psychologist for personal employee support, gender-based violence education, HIV / AIDS, Annual medical and lifestyle support (nutrition, exercise).
  • Responsible for annual unionised and non-unionised wage negotiations and all employee-related disputes in dealing with statutory referrals to bodies like the Statutory Council and CCMA.

Qualifications
  • At least 10 years’ progressively responsible experience in HR within a manufacturing environment
  • At least 10 years’ experience in handling Industrial Relations, preferably within a highly unionized environment
