You will enhance legal services delivery by providing HR support focused on people management, office strategy implementation, and employee relations. And we lead with care, not comfort.The role will be based in our Cape Town branch office, enhancing our ability to deliver high-quality legal services across the firm, helping us meet increasing client demand and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market for transformed legal delivery.You'll play a key role providing HR support on all aspects of people management including delivery of the office strategy which is in growth mode, and execution of HR support which aligns to business needs, the global people strategy and the overall strategy of the firm.The HR Business Partner will establish and maintain influential relationships with the office senior management team, the wider HR team and will work in a matrix structure, liaising with global delivery leads when appropriate.Working alongside the Head of HR for EMEA to implement HR strategy as appropriate, the HR Business Partner will also provide coaching, guidance and support on people issues.
An ability to influence, challenge and provide robust views in a supportive manner will be key for this role.You'll Be Responsible ForImplementation of strategy : Challenge, support and add value to the office in pursuit of their objectives and overall business strategyEnsure delivery of the HR Strategy within the office taking into account the priorities and culture of the office whilst striving for firm wide consistent practiceWorking with the Head of HR, EMEA and Group HR, to ensure all annual HR processes which include salary review, performance review and talent management including promotions, operate efficiently in the officePerformance & Talent ManagementEnsure the annual performance review and career pathways process is completed; facilitate office wide moderation to ensure a robust and consistent distribution of ratingsEncourage the pursuit of excellence in performance at all levels – ensuring line managers are transparent when communicating expected individual contributionCoach and influence managers from a people perspective, developing their people management / leadership skills and constructively challenging inappropriate behaviours / actionsSupport employee relations processes and ensure they are appropriately and fairly conducted in accordance with SA labour legislationWork closely with management to support employee retention and career pathwaysConduct regular talent mapping processes in line with the global timetable and in support of the future development of the officeRecruitmentProvide the office with recruitment support including ensuring all roles have appropriate candidate job descriptions, the office is appropriately supported in recruitment decisions and recruitment excellence is maintained at all timesEnsure preferential rates are agreed with recruitment agencies and the central recruitment teamIn conjunction with Global delivery leads and respective Business Managers / Practice management, identify resourcing needs and obtain necessary approvalsEstablishing relationships with external networks / universities to encourage talent attraction and promote alternative legal careers in the local marketOnboarding and Induction of new employeesEmployment Equity Plans & RegulatorySubmit Employment Equity Plans and Skills Development Plans within specified timeframes to the Labour Department.
Consult and give input into development of employment equity plans and Skills Development PlansResponsible for submitting all statutory returns, including Employment Equity, Worksmans Compensation, SARS Tax ReconciliationResponsible for ensuring that registrations are maintained for all fee earners with the appropriate Law SocietyBe a part of the management committee for the Firm's provident fund and attend regular meetingsCompensationProvide office leaders with assistance and guidance in respect of compensation and incentive planningManage the annual salary review process in conjunction with the Head of HR, EMEA and Group HR.Contribute to salary surveys to ensure salaries are competitiveSign off with the office leadership team on all promotions, salary increases and bonusesMonitor staff grading and pay scales against competitorsLiaise with the Compensation & Benefits team to ensure employee benefits programs are appropriate and cost effectivePayrollCommunicate changes to the global payroll team, in line with payment timetables and reporting requirementsChecking of the payroll data to ensure accuracyTimely submission of the SARS EMP payments, mid-year and annualEnsure that all 3rd parties are paid on timeAttending to all payroll queriesTrainingWork with central L&D team and Group HR to ensure that development programmes are relevant to office needs and promoted accordinglyIdentify and implement, in conjunction with central L&D, training interventions to meet office needsPromote employee wellness through the EWP, arrange annual wellness days and encourage attendanceEmployee RelationsChampion the development of people management skills within the officeWork closely with the Head of HR, EMEA and Group HR to manage employee relations issues, including exits, to ensure best practice processes are adhered to and HR colleagues are advised on relevant legislation and policiesEnsure the office has a full set of best practice HR policies, including disciplinary and grievanceEnsure all employee relations issues are managed in pursuit of the firm's diversity, equity and inclusion agendaIn conjunction with Group HR and Global Mobility, manage relocations and secondmentsConduct exit interviews for leavers and manage exit interview data reportingCommercial AwarenessWork with the office leadership team in achieving efficiencies through business improvementsKeep up to date on business issues affecting the office and firm in order to understand their specific opportunities and challenges and provide an efficient and proactive serviceSkills and ExperienceSignificant HR Generalist experienceA sound understanding of SA labour legislationExposure to CCMA is desirableProven ability to influence, challenge and provide robust views in a supportive mannerProven ability to gain credibility at all levels quickly and have excellent relationship management skillsCommunication : Listening, questioning and conveying ideas, facts and opinions in clear and understandable termsBusiness Expertise : Understanding the business environment in which the firm operates and considering the commercial and wider performance implications of decisions and actionsStrong listening and problem-solving skillsAbility to provide both hands on, operational and strategic level supportAbility to assist in development and implementation of office policies in line with global firm approach
