Job summary

A leading educational institution in South Africa is seeking a candidate for a management role focused on landscape areas and grounds. You will supervise staff and contractors, plan and maintain irrigation and swimming pool systems, and manage financial aspects of horticultural activities. The ideal candidate will have a national diploma in horticulture or landscape, along with relevant experience. A driver’s license and certificates in irrigation and swimming pool maintenance are recommended.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Overall supervision and management of staff, contractors, landscape areas and grounds, sportsfields and facilities
  • Financial planning / budgeting for specified site / area
  • Overall planning, organizing, leading and control of resources
  • Maintain and improve irrigation systems
  • Swimming pools maintenance
  • Prepare grounds and flowerbeds for fertilizing
  • Manage the pruning and fertilizing schedule of plants / shrubs
  • Manage weed and pest control schedule on flower beds and shrubs
  • Arrange for gardening rubble to be removed
  • Ensure that water channels and drainage systems are regularly cleaned
  • Determine schedule for planting and transplanting of flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns
  • Oversee all horticultural affairs in order to accommodate seasonal changes including thelife-span of basal coverings
  • Take responsibility for storekeeping duties
  • Internal and external liaison with clients, staff, management, departments, suppliers andcontractors
  • Perform administrative duties relating to own responsibilities such correspondence, filing,keeping of records, and compiling reports
