The Haven Night Shelter Organisation’s method is to offer social work services, rehabilitation opportunities, family reunification services, physical care and support to adult people living on the streets who are committed to reintegration.

We require a dynamic Home Carer for our Haven Old Age Home at Woodstock, Cape Town. The successful applicant will report to the Enrolled & Registered Nurse.

Qualification and Experience

• Basic Home Carer certificate and Matric
• 2 Years’ experience as a Home Carer and at least 1 year experience in Geriatric Nursing.

Minimum Duties

• To be personally responsible for the very frail residents.
• Ensure all record keeping and documentation is maintained.
• Ensure that the physical environment of the residents is clean.
• Handling of residence complaints in the correct manner.
• Promote personal hygiene of all residents who is dependent on daily care.
• Manage and coordinate residents who attends Doctor's appointment.
• Effective communication with patient/resident about their care.
• Assess and ensure emergency services assistance if necessary.
• Identifying and Caring for the Psycho – somatic and General Emotional State of Residents
• Ensures that the catering department is aware of all special dietary requirements and supervises the serving of all meals on the shifts to ensure compliance with these.
• Mentoring of learners on internships and learnerships.

• Well-spoken and neat presentation.
• Must be able to communicate well with elderly.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to work under pressure and as a team.
