A leading engineering services company in Gauteng is seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Manager to lead their Civil Design team. The role involves managing projects, ensuring compliance with standards, and overseeing a team. Candidates must have a BEng in Civil Engineering, a minimum of 20 years of experience, and the ability to lead effectively. The position offers a negotiable salary and opportunities for professional growth.
The incumbent will be required to manage and lead the Civil Design team in the office and those who are assigned to work on project sites.
Closely collaborates with the Chairman, executive directors & Project Managers in directing, co‑ordinating and exercising functional authority for all, initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling, integrating, and closing the civil projects within his area of assigned authority.
Drives the implementation of the South Zambezi and Khato Civils, Civil Engineering Division's vision of growth.
Completes engineering projects by organising and controlling various project elements.
Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management.
Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements; reviewing bids from contractors.
Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests.
Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
Control project plan by reviewing design, specifications and plan and schedule changes, recommending actions.
Control project costs by approving expenditures, administering contractor contracts.
Prepare project status reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends, recommending actions.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
Maintain product and company reputation by complying with international standards and state regulations.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Ensure that all employees are supplied with the relevant tools required to perform jobs.
Formulate systems for smooth running of the Civil Engineering division to enable synergy and coherence.
Design, reporting and project management of projects in Civil Engineering infrastructural services to meet project objectives (Water, Sewer, Roads).
Preparation of proposals, tender and contract documents for the infrastructural services mentioned above.
Incumbent is expected to carry out site supervision of construction works for short durations on sites as follows.
Ensuring compliance with design / specifications and standards.
Ensuring compliance with programme and all knowledge areas.
Attending site meetings.
Preparing reports.
Do any ad‑hoc office duties as assigned by the Chairman.
BEng (Civil), or equivalent degree.
Must be professionally registered or registrable with ECSA as PrEng, and SAICE.
Good experience in bulk water and wastewater municipal infrastructure, storm water systems, earthworks, basic road and drainage systems.
Some process design experience will be advantageous.
Experience of managing a team of junior and senior employees.
Minimum 20 years in engineering design, management and construction.
Extensive experience in design and construction of bulk steel water pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works and water treatment plants.
Minimum 5 years after professional (ECSA) registration or any other recognised professional bodies.
Proven track record in management and leadership within consulting firm.
Legal knowledge of Employee Equity Act, Labour and Employment laws, OHS Act, design compliance standards.
Knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, various civil and water design software.
Driver's licence is essential.
Quality management – ensure ISO compliance.
Regular inter‑provincial and international site visits and meetings.
