Job description

Dainfern College requires a High School Science Laboratory Technician with effect from 1 January 2026 to support teaching staff in the following subjects: IEB Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Natural Sciences.

HIGH SCHOOL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Dainfern College is an independent English-medium, co-educational school situated on Broadacres Drive, Dainfern, north of Fourways in Johannesburg. The College caters for Grades 0-12 and offers IEB Matric as the Grade 12 exit exam. Our ethos is Christian and is based on the core concept of respect.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an innovative, creative and professional scientist.
  • Have a suitable tertiary qualification.
  • Be proficient in accurately preparing reagents.
  • Have strategic agility.

Key responsibilities would include:

  • Management of the science laboratories in accordance with NOSA health and safety requirements including the management of chemical and biological waste disposal. Knowledge of proper storage of chemicals (compatibility/safety) would be required.
  • Management of a laboratory assistant who would assist you in your work.
  • Reagent preparation, standardisation and quality control.
  • Approval of production samples/blends by conducting analytical/laboratory analysis against a set of specifications.
  • Regular calibration, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment.
  • Verification of manufacturing and expiry date on batch stickers for all chemicals and enzymes.
  • Control and ordering of stock/samples for dissection and new equipment.
  • Testing, set-up and take down of all laboratory practical work.
  • Maintaining a file of all past experiments with equipment lists.
  • Reviewing and updating laboratory work instructions.
  • Assisting in the running of practical lessons and practical examinations where required.
