Responsabilités

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the bulk commodity transport sector, is seeking a highly experienced and responsible Heavy Goods Vehicle Driver to operate out of their Centurion, Gauteng depot. This role is crucial for the efficient and safe movement of bulk materials across various industrial sites and distribution hubs. The successful candidate will be adept at handling large vehicles, adhering to stringent safety protocols, and managing long-haul routes. Key Responsibilities

• Operate Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), including articulated lorries and tankers, for the transportation of bulk goods such as grain, aggregates, or fuel.
• Ensure the safe loading and unloading of materials, adhering to specific handling procedures for different commodities.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and its load, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Plan and execute long-haul routes efficiently, managing time effectively to meet delivery schedules and deadlines.
• Maintain accurate records of travel, including mileage, fuel consumption, delivery confirmations, and any incidents.
• Adhere strictly to all national and international road transport regulations and company safety policies.
• Perform basic vehicle maintenance and report any mechanical defects or issues to the maintenance team immediately.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and other stakeholders regarding delivery status and potential delays.
• Operate specialized equipment attached to the HGV, such as tipping mechanisms or pumps, as required by the cargo.
• Uphold the company's reputation for professionalism and reliability in all interactions.

Requirements

• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a minimum Code 14 endorsement.
• Professional Driving Permit (PDP) is mandatory.
• Minimum of 7 years of proven experience driving HGVs, with a focus on bulk or hazardous material transport.
• Demonstrated experience with articulated vehicles and various types of trailers/tankers.
• Impeccable driving record with no major accidents or violations.
• Thorough understanding of road safety regulations, tachograph laws, and logistics.
• Proficiency in route planning and navigation using GPS and maps.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing into the cab, inspecting the vehicle, and assisting with loading/unloading where necessary.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle unexpected situations calmly and effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
