Overview

To provide strategic leadership and oversight of the organisation's financial reporting, statutory compliance, and internal audit functions. The role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial information and reports, in compliance with applicable accounting standards, legislation, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Drive continuous improvement initiatives in statutory reporting and audit processes. Provide training and guidance to finance teams on statutory and audit requirements. Prepare and present statutory and audit updates to the Board or Audit Committee. Benchmark group reporting and audit practices against industry best practices.
  • Financial Operations Management: Oversee teams and departments to understand the preparation of the AFS; understand the underlying numbers presented on the AFS; conduct regular reasonability assessments to validate financial data accuracy and consistency across reports; ensure compliance with all relevant financial reporting standards, accounting principles, and internal audit requirements; oversee adherence to VAT legislation, ensuring accurate calculation, reporting, and submission within prescribed timelines; prepare and manage daily and annual cash flow forecasts; supervise daily reconciliation of bank accounts; optimise cash investment opportunities to maximise returns while maintaining liquidity and avoiding overdrafts.
  • Group Statutory Reporting: Oversee the preparation and timely submission of all group statutory returns and filings; coordinate with subsidiaries for consistency and accuracy; monitor changes in statutory requirements and implement updates; liaise with regulatory bodies and respond to statutory queries or audits; develop and maintain a group statutory reporting calendar; oversee completion of Annual Financial Statements (AFS) for subsidiaries and the consolidated group; apply experience in financial consolidations; prepare detailed reporting audit packs and supporting schedules; compile audit-ready packs that reconcile with the AFS.
  • Audit and Controls: Act as the primary liaison for external auditors; oversee planning and execution of annual external audits; review and approve audit schedules; address audit findings and implement corrective actions; lead post-audit debriefs and monitor implementation of audit recommendations across entities.
  • Systems, Operations and Enhancements: Manage financial systems and controls; ensure system availability; design, implement and monitor internal controls; manage month-end closing processes with appropriate documentation.
  • External Audit: Lead external audits across all group entities; ensure timelines and regulatory requirements are met; coordinate information and documentation for audits; maintain ongoing audit readiness.
  • Stakeholder Management: Cultivate relationships with executive leadership; develop strategic partnerships with external stakeholders; facilitate cross-functional collaboration and share customer insights to support goals; drive improvements based on customer feedback and align with customer experience strategy.
  • Financial Management: Lead departmental budgeting aligned with strategic objectives; plan and execute cost-reduction initiatives; develop best practices to achieve financial goals.
  • People Management: Build productive teams; manage staff performance, development, and policy adherence; attract and retain talent; support recruitment, evaluations, promotions, and retention; address grievances and foster a positive working environment; provide direction to managers to align with company strategies and goals.
Qualifications and experience required

Essential: CA (SA) qualification. NQF 8. Essential: 8 Years Commercial Experience Post Articles. Essential: 2 Years' senior management experience.
