Overview

A vacancy exists for a Head Radiographer, based at Midstream, reporting to the Nuclear operations Manager. The Head Radiographer is responsible for the operational management of multiple nuclear facilities, including managing all staff within their region, reporting directly to the Nuclear Operations Manager. The role ensures operational excellence, quality management and patient services. They oversee the day-to-day activities of Inland / Coastal Nuclear employees ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with regulations.

Function Radiographer Facility Midstream Position Head Radiographer

Responsibilities
  • Participate and oversee daily operations, ensuring compliance with operational policies and procedures.
  • Perform the role of a nuclear medicine radiographer in addition to management level responsibilities, such as:
  • Schedule patients for nuclear medicine procedures
  • Manage funder communications and authorisation needs where required, e.g. LOMs, oversight of outstanding invoices etc.
  • Prepare patients for nuclear medicine procedures which they are scheduled
  • Prepare the room and equipment required before commencing radiology procedures
  • Performs procedures which the incumbent is qualified
  • Perform hotlbab procedures and preparations for radiopharmaceuticals
  • Work overtime when required and rotate at other branches when required
  • Perform administrative tasks related to the business operations
  • Participate in and lead all required staff meetings and briefings
  • Maintain acceptable levels of health and safety, and report all deviation to procedure to Management
  • Take part in routine daily inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures
  • Report any defects or problems directly to the RPO
  • Keep up-to-date with current techniques and developments in Radiographic and imaging procedures and to take part in in-service training as required
  • Maintain good working relationships with colleagues and with non-radiographic staff, both in the nuclear medicine Department and elsewhere in the hospital
  • Conduct regular checks to ensure stock invoices align with operations
  • Ensure that the facility and equipment are maintained
  • Conduct performance reviews and implement training programs to address skill gaps
  • Build strong relationship with nuclear physician and multidisciplinary team
  • Act as the first point of complaint
  • Conduct risks checks and manage and report on all incidents, adverse events as the responsible leader for the relevant practices. This must include thorough reporting and end-end management of any incidents
  • Manage unit staff and review timesheets including performance management and grievance management
  • Foster a high-performance patient centered team culture and support staff in order to deliver on their job requirements
  • Implement policies and protocols and draft them where required
  • Drive and own all required internal audits for all quality and operational related aspects and provide feedback regarding findings, results and suggested mitigations to manager. Address gaps and follow up to confirm closure of corrective actions timeously
  • Track and report on waste generation and management and required reporting for Life Healthcare HCRW
  • Measure patient satisfaction by reviewing compliments and complaints. Assist in resolving patient complaints timeously
  • Review monthly OHS checklist and manage as well as implement required corrective measures
  • Drive required resourcing and HR requirements for practices under remit, including but not limited to interviews and onboarding of new employees
Requirements
  • Registered Nuclear Medicine Radiographer with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • Strong understanding of South African healthcare regulatory environment
  • Advanced knowledge of medical imaging technologies and workflows
  • Understanding and interest in compliance and operational management within a healthcare environment
