Head of Procurement

The Head of Procurement is responsible for developing and executing a strategic, value-driven procurement function that supports Ingrain’s operational excellence strategy. The role focuses on optimizing sourcing and supplier performance, driving cost efficiency, embedding compliance and sustainability practices, and ensuring goods and services are procured to the highest quality standards at the best total cost of ownership.
Key Performance Areas
- Align procurement strategy with Ingrain’s operational excellence (“Good to Great”) initiatives.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver measurable cost and risk management improvements.
- Achieve best value and profitability targets by reducing costs year-on-year.
- Deliver cost savings across fixed and variable cost categories (e.g. Chemicals & Packaging).
- Drive cost avoidance, working capital optimization, supplier payment term management, and contract value tracking.
- Lead and direct the procurement team to deliver against company and departmental strategies.
- Deploy resources effectively, ensuring the right people and systems are in place to achieve strategic priorities.
- Build procurement capability through talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
3. Business Process Optimization
- Innovate sourcing methods and develop tools for RFQ evaluation and e-Procurement.
- Drive implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) and continuous improvement programs.
- Champion best practice, automation, and analytics for data-driven decision-making.
4. Customer and Supplier Relations
- Develop strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders and suppliers to improve overall business performance.
- Strengthen the Ingrain brand reputation for timely, high-quality product delivery.
5. Sustainability and Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with safety, health, environment, and community legislation.
- Drive supplier compliance with ESG, transformation, and B-BBEE requirements, ensuring responsible sourcing practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and coach teams to drive down costs and deliver operational excellence.
- Oversee daily procurement operations, ensuring optimal staffing and resource allocation.
- Manage supplier and stakeholder relationships to achieve business and financial goals.
- Initiate and manage strategic procurement projects aligned with corporate objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
Academic Requirements
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or Engineering
- Advantageous
- LLB Degree with admission as an Attorney
- MBA or CIPS Level 6 qualification
- Membership with CIPS or PMI
Work Experience
- Minimum 10+ years in Procurement and/or Supply Chain Management
- Minimum 5+ years in Senior Strategic Sourcing Leadership within a manufacturing environment
- Proven expertise in tenders, supplier negotiations, and managing procurement budgets exceeding R300 million
- Demonstrated track record of achieving substantial cost savings and supplier performance improvements
Knowledge and Skills
- Deep understanding of sourcing, procurement, and supply chain operations
- Advanced financial acumen and budgeting capability
- Knowledge of legislative frameworks (LRA, BCEA, SDA, Safety, Environmental Acts)
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Strategic business development and implementation experience
