Herotel is inviting applications for the Head of PMO position to be based in Plattekloof, Cape Town.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary purpose of the Head of PMO is to standardize project‑related governance processes and facilitate the sharing of resources, methodologies, tools and techniques. The function supports teams by providing expertise, oversight and administrative services necessary to drive successful project delivery. It is also responsible for aligning project and program outcomes with the strategic goals of the organization.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Reporting: Provide executive leadership with transparency into project performance and risk exposure.
  • Portfolio Management: Maintain an up‑to‑date portfolio of all ongoing and proposed projects. Facilitate the prioritization and selection of projects that align with organisational strategy. Coordinate resource allocation and resolve conflicts across competing projects. Track portfolio performance, report on key metrics and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Project Support and Delivery: Provide coaching, mentoring and training to project managers and teams in project management methodologies (e.g. Agile, WaterfXall, hybrid models). Develop and maintain project documentation templates, tools and knowledge repositories. Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting and risk management activities. Assist project teams with issue resolution, stakeholder communication and change management.
  • Reporting and Communication: Prepare and deliver regular status reports, dashboards and executive summaries to stakeholders. Ensure effective communication across all levels of the organisation regarding project progress, risks and dependencies. Facilitate meetings, workshops and forums to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to optimise project performance and delivery. Capture lessons learned and drive organisational learning from completed projects. Benchmark against industry best practices and introduce innovative project management approaches.
  • Tool and Technology Management: Oversee the selection, implementation and maintenance of project management software and tools. Ensure data integrity and accuracy within project tracking systems. Provide user support and training on project management technologies.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • 10+ years experience in project management, portfolio management or related field, with progressive responsibility leading to supervisory or management roles.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid), tools and software.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, information technology or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree in business administration or project management is preferred or an asset for leadership roles.
