Job description

APPS, an independent girls’ preparatory school, wishes to appoint a Head of Music with effect from January 2026 (or by mutual agreement).

The successful candidate will be an inspiring and collaborative educator with a passion for music, strong leadership ability and a deep understanding of the pivotal role the arts play in a child’s development, and should have:

The candidate should have:

  • a relevant Music and/or Teaching degree and be SACE registered;
  • the commitment and creative drive to promote a very high standard of teaching and learning;
  • expertise in planning and delivering an engaging music curriculum that inspires girls to develop their musical skills and fosters a love for the Arts;
  • experience in directing the curricular and co-curricular music programmes, including class music teaching, choir direction and ensemble management;
  • proficiency in piano-playing and accompaniment;
  • a passion for developing and sustaining new ideas, and a collaborative approach when working with teachers, peripatetic staff and the leadership team;
  • strong leadership, interpersonal, administrative and computer skills;
  • experience in preparing and managing budgets, as well as analysing costs;
  • an inclusive approach that respects and celebrates girls from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds;
  • an understanding of and commitment to the Christian ethos and values of the school;
  • a valid clearance certificate in terms of the Sexual Offenders Act.
