Job description

We’re recruiting on behalf of a Cape Town-based client looking for an accomplished and forward-thinking Head of Engineering to lead their engineering division. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically strong and strategically minded professional to take ownership of the full engineering function within a fast-evolving renewable energy business.

As the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading the engineering team, overseeing budgets, driving design innovation, and ensuring technical excellence across all solar and energy projects. You will play a critical role in advising MANCO and EXCO on technical and strategic decisions, while fostering a culture of accountability, development, and continuous improvement.

This role will see you:

• Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers and technical professionals
• Oversee the design, modelling, and implementation of solar, storage, and microgrid solutions
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and design specifications
• Provide strategic input to senior management and contribute to business growth decisions
• Attend and present at industry events, maintaining strong professional and market relationships
• Develop maintenance, testing, and quality control procedures for all systems and products
• Review and approve technical documentation, budgets, and designs

Job Experience & Skills Required

• BEng (Electrical or Mechanical) with ECSA Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration essential
• Postgraduate qualification in Engineering or Solar Energy advantageous
• Minimum 9 years’ experience in engineering, of which at least 5 years are in a leadership capacity
• Proven experience in solar power, manufacturing, or energy systems environments
• Strong knowledge of Helioscope, PVSyst, PV Sol, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project
• Excellent management, communication, and strategic problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to drive team performance
