About the Role

Our client, a prestigious independent school in Centurion , Gauteng, is searching for an inspiring and experienced Head of Department to lead their Science faculty. This senior leadership role requires a visionary educator with a passion for science and a proven track record of academic excellence and team management. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the science curriculum, fostering innovative teaching methodologies, and mentoring a team of dedicated science educators. This is a key leadership position, contributing significantly to the strategic direction and overall academic success of the school. You will be expected to drive excellence in science education, ensuring that students receive a world-class learning experience. The role involves managing resources, developing departmental budgets, and promoting a collaborative and high-achieving environment for both staff and students. Key Responsibilities

Lead, manage, and mentor the Science department staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional growth. Oversee the development, implementation, and review of the science curriculum across all relevant grade levels. Ensure high standards of teaching and learning in all science subjects, promoting innovative pedagogical approaches. Manage departmental resources, including budgets, equipment, and laboratory facilities, ensuring efficient and effective utilization. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to departmental staff. Organize and supervise extracurricular science activities, clubs, and competitions. Collaborate with other Heads of Department and senior leadership to support the school's overall strategic objectives. Ensure compliance with all relevant educational policies, regulations, and safety standards. Promote a passion for science among students and encourage participation in science-related events and challenges. Report on departmental performance to the Academic Director and school leadership team.

Requirements

A Master's degree in Science (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or equivalent. A minimum of 8 years of teaching experience in secondary science education, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role (e.g., Head of Subject, Head of Department). Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and implementation for science subjects. Strong understanding of educational best practices and assessment strategies in science. Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities. Experience in managing departmental budgets and resources. A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Proven ability to inspire and motivate both students and staff. Willingness to be fully present and engaged at the school campus in Centurion .
