Placements24 is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead the Commercial Lines division in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. You will develop strategies, guide a team of underwriters, and build strong broker relationships to drive profitable growth in a dynamic insurance market.

You will shape underwriting philosophy, set guidelines, and mentor talent while contributing to the financial performance of the business within a leading insurance group.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years in commercial lines underwriting with 3+ in a supervisory role.
• Proven profitability and risk management in underwriting.
• Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products and market dynamics.
• Excellent leadership and team development capabilities.
• Analytical decision-making and stakeholder negotiation skills.
• Proven ability to build broker relationships in Durban.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement underwriting strategies and guidelines for commercial lines.
• Mentor and manage a team of commercial underwriters to meet targets.
• Oversee underwriting processes including risk assessment, pricing, and policy issuance.
• Monitor portfolio performance and identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with sales and marketing to support growth objectives.
• Maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and partners in KwaZulu-Natal.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and underwriting policies.
• Conduct regular performance reviews of the underwriting team.
