Job Specification Head of Corporate & Business Development (Reporting to the Managing Director and Executive Committee)

Role Purpose The Head of Corporate & Business Development provides strategic and operational leadership to drive the Company's long-term growth and transformation in the fuel and retail sector.

This role combines Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), corporate strategy, new project development, network upgrades / revamps, and market innovation, ensuring every initiative is delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with all regulations.

The position is central to deal execution, change management, and seamless integration of acquisitions into Company operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Growth & Corporate Development Formulate and execute Company growth and corporate development strategy in line with business objectives.
  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate M&A opportunities, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships in downstream fuel and retail sectors.
  • Lead deal execution from due diligence and risk assessment to valuation, structuring, and post-merger integration.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the Managing Director and Exco on investments, acquisitions, and capital allocation.
  • Research, Market Analysis & Business Intelligence Conduct research and market analysis to monitor industry trends, competitor activities, regulatory developments, and consumer behaviour.
  • Translate market insights into growth strategies, project opportunities, and product / service innovations.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and board-level presentations to support informed decision-making.
  • New Project Development & Capital Investments Lead the development of project implementation plans, ensuring technical, financial, and operational feasibility.
  • Oversee the maintenance, improvement, and evaluation of project plants and facilities.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time and do not exceed budget, maintaining strict cost discipline and return-on-investment targets.
  • Manage and coordinate service providers, contractors, and consultants, ensuring they meet agreed performance standards and deadlines.
  • Acquisition Integration & Change Management Direct the implementation, rollout, and operational takeover of new acquisitions to ensure seamless integration with Company systems, culture, and brand standards.
  • Champion change management initiatives, ensuring teams and processes adapt effectively to new operations and strategic direction.
  • Collaborate closely with site partners to ensure successful delivery and sustainable performance.
  • Governance, Compliance & ESG / Sustainability Oversee strategic and operational reporting, presenting regular updates and insights to the Managing Director, Exco, and the Board.
  • Ensure full regulatory, environmental and corporate compliance, including adherence to safety, legal and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) / sustainability standards.
  • Implement robust risk-management practices across all transactions and projects.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives aligned with environmental protection, social responsibility and ethical governance to strengthen the Company's long-term operational and market resilience.
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration Build and mentor a high-performing, cross-functional team spanning strategy, finance and operations.
  • Foster strong internal collaboration and maintain productive relationships with site partners, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
  • Represent the Company with industry bodies, regulators, investors and strategic partners to strengthen market positioning.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or a related field (MBA or equivalent strongly preferred).
  • Minimum
  • years of senior leadership in downstream oil & gas, fuel retail or related consumer-energy sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in M&A deal execution, strategic development and large-scale capital project management.
  • Strong background in market analysis, risk management and cross-functional project delivery.
  • Exceptional strategic and financial acumen, including project evaluation and ROI analysis.
  • Skilled in budget control and cost management for complex capital projects.
  • Advanced abilities in change management, negotiation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent presentation and board communication skills.
  • Strong vendor and service-provider management skills to ensure timely, high-quality execution.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business or related field.

  • Successful completion and integration of M&A transactions within budget and timeframes.
  • Delivery of capital projects and network revamps on schedule and within approved budgets.
