Job Description

The Balance Sheet Reporting Team forms part of the Group Reporting & Insights function within Old Mutual Limited (OML). The team is responsible for the delivery of key regulatory reporting requirements, key performance metrics and capital-related reporting. Through its broad reporting mandate, the team partners closely with stakeholders across the organisation.

The Role

Reporting to the Head: Balance Sheet Reporting, this role is accountable for leading two specialist teams. The team is responsible for the calculation, review, forecasting and delivery of the OMLACSA, OML Insurance Group and OML Financial Conglomerate solvency results and regulatory submissions. The role is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination and timely delivery of all regulatory submissions while managing stakeholder relationships across the Group to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, robust governance and high-quality reporting outcomes. The incumbent will drive continuous process improvement and provide leadership to the team to ensure effective execution of all deliverables.

Key Result Areas
OMLACSA Regulatory Reporting
  • Accountable for the review and approval of the OMLACSA solvency calculations and related movement analysis, ensuring technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage and oversee the submission of the OMLACSA quarterly and annual regulatory submissions to the Prudential Authority, ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee the preparation, review and submission of regulatory returns to the SARB (B16, B30, B31, C68, B16).
  • Manage and oversee the internal OMLACSA Capital Management Reporting.
OML Insurance Group and Financial Conglomerate Reporting
  • Review the biannual OML Insurance Group and Financial Conglomerate solvency calculations and commentary for the significant movements.
  • Manage and oversee regulatory submissions to applicable regulatory bodies on behalf of the designated Insurance Group and Financial Conglomerate, ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage and oversee the consolidation of off-balance sheet items.
  • Oversee the ASISA levy reasonability calculations.
General
  • Ensure compliance with internal reporting timelines and regulatory deadlines through effective planning, monitoring and escalation where necessary.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and manage interdependencies across Treasury & Financial Markets (TFM), Group Actuarial, Segment Finance, Asset managers, data providers and Group Reporting & Insights to facilitate the delivery of all reporting requirements.
  • Ensure that accurate and complete data is provided to the Group Actuarial team for the joint completion of regulatory submissions and solvency calculations.
  • Manage interactions with external auditors and governance forums, ensuring timely resolution of queries and compliance with audit and governance requirements.
  • Support and provide financial oversight to the business planning and capital management processes, ensuring robust analysis and timely delivery of capital reporting requirements to the Treasury and Financial Markets team (TFM).
  • Support the development, monitoring and forecasting of capital positions across OMLACSA, the Insurance Group and Financial Conglomerate, providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Support the external reporting processes, ensuring that external disclosures are accurate and complete.
  • Coordinate and oversee ad-hoc regulatory submissions and applications as required, engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure successful completion.
  • Monitor and assess regulatory developments and emerging requirements, ensuring processes remain compliant and recommending appropriate enhancements where required.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, strengthening controls, enhancing reporting processes, and improving the efficiency and accuracy of deliverables.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team comprising 2 direct reports and 4 indirect reports, creating a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative work environment.
  • Maintain and enhance the regulatory reporting control environment, ensuring appropriate governance, documentation, review controls, and audit trails are in place.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Qualified CA (SA) with a minimum 7 – 10 years relevant financial services experience.
  • Proven experience in a Group Finance or Group Reporting environment.
  • Experience in regulatory reporting to the Prudential Authority and SARB.
  • Ability to work with large volumes of data.
  • Experience in engaging with auditors.
  • Working knowledge of Insurance Act regulatory requirements and reporting frameworks.
  • HFM experience is advantageous.
  • Proven people leadership experience managing specialist finance teams.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders.
