Hardware and Device Specialist
Our client is looking for a hardware and device specialist, with a particular focus on communications devices such as modems, routers, and other networking and communications equipment.
This role focuses on our client's range of devices, which include both OpenWRT-based equipment as well as single-use Android devices.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Linux and OpenWRT: Must be comfortable with Linux, including familiarity with its architecture, commands, file system structure, and basic administration tasks.
- CLI Skills: Proficient using the CLI and able to read, understand, debug, and troubleshoot shell scripts written in BASH.
- Hardware & Connectivity Troubleshooting: Ability to troubleshoot remotely both hardware and connectivity issues.
- Device Selection and Configuration: Authority on device selection and configuration, working with the sales and solutions team to fit the correct device to customer needs.
- Maintenance and Upgrades: Identify and execute remote maintenance and upgrade campaigns.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve hardware-related issues and implement networking and communications solutions.
- Compatibility Testing: Ensure new hardware devices are compatible with existing systems.
- Security Measures: Implement and maintain security measures for hardware components.
- Documentation: Keep detailed records of hardware configurations and maintenance activities.
- Vendor Relations: Work closely with hardware vendors and evaluate potential new suppliers.
- User Support: Provide Tier‑2 support to end‑users for hardware‑related issues.
- Network Integration: Collaborate with network specialists for proper integration of hardware components.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor device performance to identify potential issues.
- Compliance: Ensure devices comply with industry regulations and standards.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as computer science, information technology, or electronic engineering.
- Hardware Knowledge: In‑depth understanding of network hardware devices.
- Operating Systems: Proficiency in Linux and OpenWRT.
- Troubleshooting: Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware and device issues.
- Networking: Deep understanding of networking concepts and configurations.
- Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with end‑users.
- Documentation: Ability to document hardware configurations and solutions.
- Stay Updated: Keep informed about the latest technologies and industry best practices.
