Job description

Astral, a leading South African integrated poultry producer, has a Handyman opportunity in the Rendering Plant at County Fair, Primary Processing Plant in Fisantekraal.

The purpose of the Handyman is to conduct routine maintenance on processing equipment, attending to unscheduled processing interruptions resulting from breakdowns and to install and maintain processing equipment.

The Ideal Candidate Would Be Responsible For

• Routine maintenance on processing equipment
• Attending to unscheduled processing interruptions resulting from breakdowns during shift
• Ability to diagnose and problem solving in an electrical and mechanical plant
• Installation and maintenance of processing equipment, including weekends
• Manage production, mechanical and electrical workflow
• Continuous interaction and communication with management
• Adhere to all Health and Safety policies, HACCAP requirements and standards
• Adhere and maintain the 20 Keys model in the department

The Successful Candidate Must Meet The Following Requirements

• Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification
• Previous experience in electrical/mechanical repair of poultry processing and rendering plant equipment
• Ability to diagnose and rectify problems in an electrical plant
• Have sound knowledge of computers and Microsoft Systems
• Ability to work unsupervised and in a high pressurized environment
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans
• Must be pro‑active and ability to work accurately
• Must be flexible and able to work weekends and irregular hours
• Must have reliable transport
