Job Description
Our client an established mining company operating in Africa with global offices and listings is seeking a strategic and globally minded Group HR Director to lead their global HR function based out of Gauteng. This pivotal role will ensure that people practices are aligned with the company’s growth ambitions and operational needs across all regions. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned HR Director to shape a high-impact function within a dynamic growth-oriented organization.
Responsibilities
- Drive the development and execution of global HR strategy policies and compliance frameworks.
- Provide strategic oversight across all locations with a particular focus on harmonizing operations in Africa with global standards.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.
- Play an active role in the Remuneration Risk Nominations and Audit Committees.
- Advise CEO and senior leaders on HR and employee relations.
- Lead organisational design and change initiatives in African operations.
- Mentor the corporate HR team and foster a high-performance culture while supporting HR leadership in countries of operation in Africa.
- Champion talent succession and leadership development.
- Remuneration Risk & Governance.
- Ensure fair compliant reward structures across jurisdictions.
- Maintain compliance with labour laws and ethical standards.
- Standardise HR policies and systems globally.
- Lead initiatives in job design performance and retention.
- Collaborate with Finance Legal Operations and ESG teams.
- Build strong relationships across culturally diverse regions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or similar preferred.
- Seasoned HR Director with experience across global mining operations with a focus in Africa.
- 15 years previous experience in human resources within the mining sector.
- Strong understanding of local labour regulations and legislation across Southern Africa advantageous.
- Proven experience advising executive teams and contributing at Board level.
- High integrity discretion and professionalism; handles confidential matters with sound judgment.
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen.
- Excellent interpersonal influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels in both a hands‑on and advisory capacity.
- Decisive and confident with strong ethical judgment.
- Culturally sensitive and adaptable in diverse environments.
- Willing to travel across Africa at times on short notice.
