Group Financial Manager

An established, multi-entity group is appointing a Group Financial Manager to strengthen group-level financial governance, reporting, and strategic financial oversight. This role plays a key part in supporting the CFO and Finance Heads across the cluster, ensuring robust financial control, compliance, and forward-looking insight.
Role Overview
The successful incumbent will oversee group finance activities including financial consolidation, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and statutory compliance. The role requires a technically strong, detail-oriented finance professional who is comfortable operating at both strategic and hands-on levels.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and coordinate group consolidation, reporting and financial planning processes
- Review and analyse monthly management results, providing insights and recommendations
- Compile and present group management packs and year-end reporting
- Ensure consistent application of IFRS, accounting standards and regulatory compliance across the group
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to Finance Heads within the cluster
- Evaluate business performance, identifying efficiency improvements and cost-saving opportunities
- Review and authorise journals, provisions and balance sheet reconciliations
- Design, implement and monitor internal controls and governance frameworks
- Oversee treasury functions and banking relationships, including hedging instruments
- Manage preparation of annual financial statements, tax computations and IFRS updates
- Coordinate and consolidate group budget submissions
- Support finance system enhancements, reporting automation and BI initiatives
- Assist the CFO with strategic projects, financial modelling and ad-hoc analysis
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) – essential
- At least 5 years’ post-articles experience in a group finance, financial management or consolidation-focused role
- Strong technical expertise in IFRS and group reporting
- Proven experience preparing and finalising financial statements in line with South African statutory requirements
- Sound knowledge of:
- Income tax and deferred tax
- Share-based payments
- Corporate governance, risk and compliance
- VAT, imports and exports
- Experience with hedging instruments such as FECs
- Exposure to stock environments advantageous (retail / wholesale preferred)
- Advanced MS Office skills and strong financial systems capability
